Amid the challenges of the pandemic, I recognized a growing
trend in online shopping during the holiday season. In
response, I took initiative and created a directory website
designed to champion local businesses. The goal was clear:
encourage people to support nearby stores instead of opting
for larger online retailers like Amazon or big box stores.
The impact was immediate and substantial. The website
swiftly gained traction, amassing over 2500 views within the
first two days, with interest from over 350 businesses
wanting to be added. The outpouring of gratitude from
numerous local businesses was both humbling and inspiring.
Many expressed their appreciation, noting that the platform
played a significant role in boosting their Christmas sales
during a challenging period.
Regrettably, the website was designed with a seasonal focus
and is no longer operational. Nonetheless, this project
stands as a testament to the positive influence that digital
initiatives can have in fostering community support and
resilience during unprecedented times.
